Pre-Kindy Classes

Learning through play!

Primary Arts in Focus

After a vibrant start to the term with our Visual Arts Open Night Gallery, this semester our focus has shifted to Drama.  Students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 are diving into improvisation plays, moving like animals, using our voices to create characters, rehearsing scripts, discussing dramatic tension and playing games such as The Name Game and Park Bench.

Pre Primary students have been moving like the characters in ‘The Magic Hat’ by Mem Fox, like the sleepy bear and warty old toad, plus reciting some of the words in the story.

Year 1 students have been bringing the characters in ‘Wombat Stew’ by Marcia K Vaughn to life through voice, adding personality and emotion to this classic tale.

Year 2 students have been given a scene to act out and work as a team to create a solution to the problem, for example, aliens have been stealing important items from your house, like the TV remote control, but your parents are blaming you…what do you do?

Year 3 students have been rehearsing and performing their fable stories and learning that drama can be a powerful way to share messages and morals with an audience.

Year 4 students have performed some revamped fable stories to capture a new audience and are now experimenting with creating entire plays from just a single line of dialogue.

Year 5 students have followed the full rehearsal process to refine their scripted performances. They’ve assigned roles, planned stage blocking, and worked hard to memorise lines for polished presentations.

Year 6 students have stepped into the role of playwrights, crafting original fairytale-inspired scripts using familiar characters and themes.  Some titles have included, ‘Polly and the Pumpkin Pie Pandas’, ‘The Three Little Monsters’, and ‘The Turn of a Princess’.

Who knows, perhaps one day we’ll see some of our talented students lighting up the stage or starring on our screens. The spotlight is waiting!
