Year 1 Gold

Term 3 has been jam packed with lots of exciting events, from celebrating Naidoc week, dressing up during book week and wearing yellow for Are You Ok Day. Year 1 Gold has also been working hard on making their Dads a wonderful gift for Fathers Day, and practicing our assembly item in preparation for our Grandparents Day Assembly in Term 4. We have also been preparing for the Junior Sports Carnival. Students are looking forward to competing in fun events such as baton relay, tunnel ball and sack racing. Term 3 has flown by with all these fun activities we had a chance to be a part of.

Year 1 Blue

Last week our Year 1s had an absolute blast celebrating NAIDOC Week, with lots of stories, creativity, and more glue than we bargained for!

To explore the idea of Caring for Country, the children created their very own nature suncatchers. Each child collected special treasures from home; flowers, leaves, shells, feathers, and used them to show their personal promise to take care of the environment for future generations.

Some of the legacy’s the children decided upon were ‘I will protect the Earth by putting rubbish in the bin’ and ‘I will plant more trees’ and ‘I will clean up the beaches.’

Once their promises were complete, they each sealed it with a handprint. As Mrs Crees and I had just finished hanging the display and were about to leave, we hear the dreaded sounds of “drip, drip, drip” of glue! So we laid out a sheet overnight and hoped for the best! By morning, most were dry… but not all, as poor Mrs Smith discovered when she ducked under the display and ended up with a sticky surprise in her hair!

Despite the mess and chaos, the results were beautiful and meaningful.

The children’s suncatchers now hang proudly in our classroom as a daily reminder of their promises to care for Country.
